商周时代铸铜及铜雕艺术已经达到了很高的水平,当时在政治、宗教、生活等领域已经的大量使用铜制品。在秦以后的二千多年里,铜文化概括了社会生活的所有领域,如货币、兵器、邮政、宗教、地震、冶金、天文、建筑、气象、中医学等等,十六国时期铜造像艺术达到了很高的水平,唐代的铜雕像趋于世俗化。宋朝出现了仿古铜雕制品,明清时期的铜雕制品进入了更多的领域。

two thousand years since Qin Dynasty, copper culture has summarized all

earthquake, metallurgy, astronomy, architecture, meteorology,
traditional Chinese medicine and so on. The art of copper statues
reached a very high level during the Sixteen Kingdoms Period, and the
copper statues of Tang Dynasty tended to be secularized. Copper carvings
imitating ancient times appeared in Song Dynasty, and bronze carvings
in Ming and Qing Dynasties entered more fields
